One of the most effective and versatile cosmetic dental treatments available is veneers. The thin, porcelain or ceramic veneers are matched to the shade, shape, and size of your teeth, so they blend perfectly with your natural teeth while providing cosmetic correction for a variety of problems. With veneers, Dr. Makhoul can fix a chipped tooth, correct teeth shape, close gaps, even tooth length, brighten or whiten teeth, and create a more attractive smile.

Who Can Get Veneers?

Dr. Makhoul provides dental veneers to restore damaged teeth and enhance smiles for healthy patients. Some patients visit our Mission Viejo office because they break their tooth, while others want to create a Hollywood smile. Most people are candidates for the procedure as long as their tooth structure and roots are in place. If, however, you have a cavity or gum disease, this will need to be treated before we complete the procedure.

How are Veneers Done?

When patients visit our EM Makhoul DDS – Dentist of Mission Viejo offices, we take an impression of their teeth to craft the veneers in a lab. The veneers will match your teeth’s size, shape, and color, taking a week or more to create.

To place dental veneers, we prepare your tooth by removing a portion of the enamel. This helps the veneer lay flat and in line with your gum tissue. After preparing the tooth, we secure a temporary veneer using removable glue. While wearing a temporary veneer, it is essential to brush your teeth gently and avoid eating any foods that may push it out of place.

When your permanent veneers are ready, you return to Dr. Makhoul’s Mission Viejo office so we can remove the temporary shells and ensure the permanent veneers are a perfect fit. It is typically attached using a water-based solution to see how it looks. If any adjustments need to be made, they are done now. Otherwise, the tooth will be cleaned, and the dental veneer will be bonded to the tooth. You walk out of our offices with a beautiful smile you can flash immediately.

Is Getting Veneers Painful?

You may experience mild pain and sensitivity to hot and cold foods for the first few days after having veneers placed, but this typically fades within a few days. If there is any discomfort, an over-the-counter pain reliever will help. Cold compresses minimize any swelling. Most patients return to their normal activities immediately after their veneers are placed. We recommend that patients watch what they eat for a few days and stick with soft foods. While there is a short recovery time when getting veneers, the procedure is entirely worth it because, in the end, you will have a beautiful smile.

How Long Do Veneers Last?

With proper care, ceramic and porcelain veneers can last a decade or longer.

How Do You Brush Veneers?

Caring for your veneers is simple. You brush and floss the same way you do your natural teeth. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and stick with a non-abrasive toothpaste (avoid gritty ingredients like charcoal or baking soda). Brushing at least twice a day is important to prevent plaque buildup on the veneers.

If you have chipped, stained, or cracked teeth, porcelain or ceramic veneers can restore the appearance of your teeth. For a consultation to discuss your options, please contact our office at EM Makhoul DDS - Dentist of Mission Viejo Phone Number (949) 364-3724.
