Dental Implant Treatment
Think of dental Implants as Titanium anchors that are surgically placed into the jawbone to hold permanent replacement teeth or dentures. Through a process called "osteointegration", the jawbone actually attaches itself to the implant over time, providing tremendous stability.
To devise the best treatment plan for you, we first complete a medical and dental history and a thorough oral examination, including X-rays.
The procedure and follow-ups are performed in our office using either local anesthetic or conscious sedation depending upon your individual situation.
At the time of treatment you are fitted with temporary teeth to help you smile and function as normally as possible, while we wait for the implants to fully integrate.
After full integration the implants are stable and permanent teeth are made to fit on the implants.
The procedure is very comfortable and extremely beneficial.
Benefits of Dental Implants
Because dental Implants are patterned after the structure of your natural teeth, they provide a highly stable support system for the replacement teeth. Other benefits include:
* Improved biting pressure similar to natural teeth
* Comfort and fit unlike dentures that slip and slide, so no sores or strange clicking sounds
* Longevity and reliability as long as 20 years or more with proper maintenance
* Increased self-confidence once you realize you can chew, talk, laugh and smile with confidence.
You are a good candidate for Dental Implants
If you face the loss of one or several teeth or if you are dissatisfied with dentures or other options available to you, you may find that dental implants are right for you. Age is not typically a major factor. During your initial consultation, we'll help you decide. In general we look for general good health and a good attitude to ensure that you follow through with vital oral hygiene habits.
Dental Implants are definitely well worth the investment.
What does getting Dental Implants involve?
The process of getting implants requires a number of visits over several months.
X-rays and impressions (molds) are taken of the jaw and teeth to determine bone, gum tissue, and spacing available for an implant. While the area is numb, the implant will be surgically placed into the bone and allowed to heal and integrate itself onto the bone for up to six months. Depending on the type of implant, a second surgery may be required in order to place the “post” that will hold the artificial tooth in place. With other implants the post and anchor are already attached and placed at the same time.
After several weeks of healing the artificial teeth are made and fitted to the post portion of the anchor. Because several fittings may be required, this step may take one to two months to complete. After a healing period, the artificial teeth are securely attached to the implant, providing excellent stability and comfort to the patient.
You will receive care instructions when your treatment is completed. Good oral hygiene, eating habits, and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your new implant.
